East to West
by Casting Crowns

Here I am, Lord, and I’m drowning in your sea of forgetfulness
The chains of yesterday surround me
I yearn for peace and rest
I don’t want to end up where You found me
And it echoes in my mind, keeps me awake tonight

I know You’ve cast my sin as far as the east is from the west
And I stand before You now as though I’ve never sinned
But today I feel like I’m just one mistake away from You leaving me this way

Jesus, can You show me just how far the east is from the west
’cause I can’t bear to see the man I’ve been come rising up in me again
In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
’cause You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other

I start the day, the war begins, endless reminding of my sin
Time and time again Your truth is drowned out by the storm I’m in
Today I feel like I’m just one mistake away from You leaving me this way

I know You’ve washed me white, turned my darkness into light
I need Your peace to get me through, to get me through this night
I can’t live by what I feel, but by the truth Your word reveals
I’m not holding on to You, but You’re holding on to me
You’re holding on to me

Jesus, You know just how far the east is from the west
I don’t have to see the man I’ve been come rising up in me again
In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
’cause You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other

One scarred hand to the other
From one scarred hand to the other

(Lyrics/Song “East to West” Copyright by Casting Crowns)

———————————————————————————————————

Even though this song basically repeats, it has such a strong meaning to it. It definitely has a strong meaning for me. In life, you should never base how you should live your life on your own understandings. I pretty much had to learn that the hard way many times, until recently I really learned that I shouldn’t. Everyone has their own problems whether it be small or little. Regardless, they’re problems which eventually build up. You can’t hide your feelings by being tough or showing a happy face all the time. No, it doesn’t work like that, because God knows your burdens. He knows everything you go through and who you really are. Your eternal happiness is through Him and nobody else. Maybe He’ll show his love through your friends, family, things He has blessed you with in life. However, no one can ever make you more happy and pleased than He will.

Jesus died for us and we need to live for Him. What He has gone through is more painful then any of has gone or will ever go through. We need to understand that this life is temporary; we will not live here forever, but have eternal life with him in heaven- but only if you can accept him in your heart.

I’m never satisfied with my life but I need to appreciate the things God has blessed me with. This is my ultimate favorite song just because of how it spoke to me. Everything happens for a reason. When Ate Marchesa told Wendell and I that we were going to sing this song for the Easter Concert this April, I just said yes because I love this song without even really listening to it. However, one day, I was practicing and I just kept listening to it, and then realized how true this song was. It summed up how I should be living my life not just how I want to.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge, and he wil make your paths straight.
