A New Birth Of Freedom

"Therefore if the Son makes you free,you shall be free indeed"  says the Lord Jesus in the gospel of John 8:36. Just what is this freedom the Lord Jesus was saying?

The Lord Jesus was saying to the Jews listening to Him that " whoever commits sin is a slave of sin" (John 8:34). But should they believe on Him, they would have freedom. This wasn’t easy for these listening Jews. They insisted that they have never been in bondage to anyone. Jesus point is bondage or enslavement by sin. The only way they can have freedom from judgment of sin is to believe on Him who is the truth Himself. That’s a new birth of freedom

Yet there is another birth of freedom in the Book of Galatians. In Gal.5:1 Paul says "stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free,and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage". Paul now is saying to believers that Jesus Christ has already released them from wrong notion of attaining righteousness,through good works or adherence to the Law. While obedience to the Law is encouraged, obtaining salvation  before God through the Law is futile endeavor. With His coming, the grace of God has come. No longer from hereon will man be under the yoke of the requirements of the Law for righteousness. The Son, has freed him from the yoke of the Law – a new  birth of freedom.

Let us live a life worthy of this new birth we receive. Let us be driven in our living by the truth that we have been crucified with Christ , and that Christ is now living in us; and that the life we are living now is for Him who has loved us and gave Himself for us. To show to the world that He has not died in vain! (Gal 2:20-21)

Abraham Lincoln’s one for the ages speech,  Gettysburg Address, has this line " this new birth of freedom" echoing what they have gone through and achieved as a result of recent bloody struggle among them,for the good of the States more UNITED  from then on forward. He  postulated that phrase with "under God" acknowledging  that every achievement they had attained and will be attained flow from the kindness and goodness of merciful God .

Many,many years has lapsed and America today needs to hear,and see, and live  a new birth of freedom. Given the spiritual climate of America today, we’re not sure to whom this nation is UNDER? We don’t have an agreeing voice  unto this one! It’s time and proper to return to GOD of our father,Abraham , who recognized "a new birth of freedom" under God.
