By His Wounds

My daughter has slight eczema, so there are some patchy areas in her skin that tend to itch so much, resulting in her over-zealousness to scratch it until it bleeds.  So some days, she has deep scabs and days when I feel so helpless in alleviating her itchiness.  Sometimes, we both find ourselves so frustrated.  I always ask her why she’s crying and she responds, “because you’re not happy.”  Then I end up explaining that I’m not happy because I see all her deep wounds that I know will take some time in healing.

It’s a cycle we go through sometimes.  But those moments, after the frustration, I apologize to her, tell her that I love her through her tears and ask her if I can pray for her.  She always says yes.

She sits quietly no matter how long my prayers get.  And she usually asks, “will Jesus heal my boo boo?”  I always tell her yes.  I don’t say it because it’s a simple answer or because it’s the right thing to stir her faith, but I say it because after 29 years of having my own scars, I know it to be true.  I say it because I know the answer will never change even when I am 60 and she is 35.

So today, after examining her healing wounds, she asked me if I was happy and I said yes.  Then she said, “thank you Jesus.”  Instantly, I figured she was thanking Jesus for healing her deep scar, but now that I think of it, with a heart like my daughter, I think she was thanking Jesus for healing mine.

But aside from our physical ailments, emotional pains, we ALL face the disease of sin that ultimately would result in death.  This is not at all an impermanent condition as sickness we experience throughout life, but because of sin, there is a severity of judgment to eternal damnation, explained in Rom. 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

But as God is the Healer of broken hearts and deep physical or emotional wounds, He is greatest for being the Healer of our wretched spiritual condition in sin.  We are healed  because of the sacrifice Jesus has offered through his death on the cross (Isaiah 53:5).  Our ultimate healing and saving, our greatest assurance of hope and peace came with a price- His wounds.  Our Healer became the wounded, the pierced, the crushed, the punished.  And we who were dead in our sins, were healed and given life.

Like my daughter said, “Thank You Jesus!”  You heal our boo boos, our hurts, tears and hearts; and even by Your own wounds, we are TRULY healed.

Psalm 147:3
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Isaiah 53:5

But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

    Indeed, all of us has deep scars, whether it is natural wounds or wounds that deeply hurts us emotionally and physicall not to mention spiritually. I do agree when your daughter said “thank you Jesus” at her tender she recognized the importance of faith and yielding to our Great Physician can truly heal our wounds. And pray to hold us tight in our fiery trials of life. And I thank God for upbringing you are installing to your daughter. God Bless You, Perze and the rest of your family.
