Dinner and a Movie Presents:  ”What If…”

  Introducing What if…, a Pure Flix and Jenkins Entertainment film. Starring,Kevin Sorbo, Kristy Swanson,Debby Ryan, and John Ratzenberger.

  What if…, tells the story of Ben Walker (Kevin Sorbo), who fifteen years ago left his college sweetheart Wendy (Kristy Swanson), and his calling to be a preacher, in order to pursue a business opportunity. Now with a high-paying executive gig, a trophy fiancé, and a new Mercedes, he hasn’t considered a family nor felt the need to set foot in a church in fifteen years.

  But God has other plans. While on a thrill ride outside the city, his new car mysteriously breaks down, and he’s visited by a tow truck driver named Mike (John Ratzenberger) who claims to be an angel sent to show Ben what his life would look like had he followed his true calling. Suddenly Ben wakes up in the middle of domestic chaos as his wife Wendy and daughters (including Disney Channel’s Debby Ryan) are getting ready for church, where Ben is the new pastor.

  Before he can get back to his old life, Ben must first embrace this reality and discover the value of faith and family, and perhaps restore his love for those who were heartbroken fifteen years ago: Wendy and God. In the tradition of It’s a Wonderful Life and The Family Man, What if… is a story of finding your true purpose in life.

Our SJBCI Youth is hosting our first ever LOCK IN.

What: Lock In
When: Aug.15-16, 2011 / 3pm
Where: SJBCI Building 311 Oakcrest Ave. Pitman, NJ 
Why: Evangelism Training and Application
Who:  High School, College, Young Adults, Adults 

DESCRIPTION

SJBCI is holding a Lock-In on August 15-16, starting 12pm at SJBCI Building (311 Oakcrest Ave. Pitman, NJ). The event is specifically for High School Students, but college, young adults, and adults are more than welcome to join and attend. We will focus on Evangelism, which will include both training and application. 

Monday will be a day of evangelism training. A guest speaker, Santei diLeonardo, will be giving his testimony, sharing his experience on spreading the gospel, and speaking about evangelism. We will then train the youth on how to use the methods that Santei, Sarah, and Gerryboy learned from Campus Crusade for Christ to share the gospel. There will also be simple praise and worship sets and times for the different youth groups to fellowship and get to know each other. We will have a short session for open mic, for the youth to share their experiences or a song about what they’ve learned throughout the summer. Food will be provided as well. Sleeping arrangements include the boys and girls being separated into two large rooms, where assigned leaders will ensure that everyone stays in their rooms. 

Tuesday will be a day of application. We will head down the shore and take what we learned from training to evangelize. The shore provides an environment where we aren’t as visible so that the youth can get comfortable sharing with people. It also gives us the opportunity to be surrounded by many people in a public domain. Breakfast will be provided before we head down to the shore. However, lunch will not be provided and must be acquired on your own. There will be places at the boardwalk for the youth to eat at. We will depart from the shore around 3-4pm. 

What You’ll Need

• An overnight back
•  a change of clothes
• a red shirt (which will help us easily identify the youth at the shore)
• a sleeping bag
• bible and notebook
• some pocket money
• *note: no showers are provided

Rules at the Shore

• no swimming
• no suntanning
• no shopping
• no walking around aimlessly
• we are strictly there to evangelize.

Young Believers Summer Retreat

Youth Interfellowship Sports Event
We’re invited to the MD church w/ Pastor Rommel for a youth sports event.  See Sarah or Hannah for details and to sign up for rides.

The Young Believers of SJBCI is holding a tShirt Drive during this summer as a collaborative effort with the Feeding the Homeless Ministry.  Many of the people they serve in this center has expressed their need for clothing, specifically TShirts.  The YB will have a box designated in the youth room (adjacent to the nursery) for the tShirt Drive, so if you have any used, but still wearable, old tShirts, please consider donating to this special project.

All donated tShirts will be given to the Neighborhood Center in Camden.

At our ‘Dinner & a Movie’, we’ll be showing "Fireproof" on the big screen. Enjoy dinner before the movie, reasonably priced, for a Young Believers’ Fundraiser for their upcoming True Love Waits Retreat 2010.

BASIC (Brothers and Sisters In Christ)

Simple vision. A night of worship and the Word, once a month. The worship team will be leading the whole night, songs to glorify and to shout joy. Then a casual sharing of the Word.

The starting of this vision will be the last Saturday of 2009. It’s completely simple, completely casual. If you wish, bring friends, but most of all, bring a heart of praise.
